I'm Just Getting Started

What are you doing?

March of 2019, my wife Laurie started cooking and preparing us dinners that were Whole Food Plant Based and talked about juicing. So I thought I'd eat the dinners and try it out and maybe try a juice. I'd seen all the video's and information about how good the way of eating was for my health and knew at almost 400lbs I had to change something. One month later i'd lost 25lbs. That served to motivate me to keep going on this way of eating/living.
I wanted to try juicing but with three kids just didn't have the time to really put into the purchasing, preparation and readying of the juices. I started searching online and found there was a store just about to open close to us here just south of Houston. I began going and taking advantage of the juices The Main Squeeze had to offer. I really started to see a difference in my body's response to all the micro-nutrient intake as well as continuing to cook & prepeare meals myself for breakfast, lunch and dinner to help out. When partaking in just one juice a day I notice a difference in my focus, my energy level and endurance. The difference in juicing and WFPB has meant seeing and hearing with more clarity, losing weight and I'm generally more even keel emotionally. I also began to walk and later run for a little exercise. (which I never wanted to do prior to that)
To date i've lost over 165lbs, am completely off my blood pressure meds (any meds for that matter) and on the lowest setting for my CPAP. I'm running 6.5miles 2-times and week and enjoying it.
Thank God for my wife for helping on this transformative journey to health. Thanks for changing the way we view food, not as fuel but as medicine.
My workmates and I went to lunch last week. It's important to know that they get pretty tired of going to the same few places I always ask to go. We go to those places so I can eat what I call "on-script," at least for the most part. So they suggested a local place called, Red Oak Cafe close to us just south of Houston, Tx. I looked over their great menu and they had a couple of options for for someone eating plant based, primarily guacamole toast of a couple of varieties. As I looked over all the ingredients on their menu I decided to ask if I could get a baked potato with grilled onions and peppers and then topped with a decent amount of guacamole (to add flavor and creaminess since avoiding butter). Red Oak Cafe said absolutely. It was fantastic. They used green bell peppers and red onions...I think any onions would've worked. That would've been great compared to the usual out-to-eat meal, however I asked and they obliged to sauté the veggies dry without oil. So I was able to eat WFPB at a local restaurant and it was great! Some restaurants and staff members may not be as good at dealing with requests like this, but the Red Oak did a fantastic job. I've found that even if it's a pain, it's worth knowing if that's a place you can go and have a positive experience ordering something without feeling like trash. I'll be blogging more about some of the places I eat both locally and at national or regional chains and post some additional options at those places. Finds like this are great because they can help you feel a little more normal in our food-driven society. Going out to eat at a "normal" place can be a game-changer sometimes when we're making food choices that make us feel better or that may even save our lives.
